I spent about 2 nerve-wracking hours trying to figure out why several images wouldn't show up in Firefox, but showed up clear as day in Safari. To my chagrin, it was because Photoshop had screwed with them!

Ninah's Infographic :)
laura infographic

My infographic is in response to an article on CNN, in which travel and leisure claimed Philadelphia was the least attractive city out of 25 U.S. cities. I choose to compare Phila to D.C. because its a pretty close tie, but Philadelphia did outscore D.C. in the majority of categories.
I listed 8 categories, and took the result scores which were out of 5, from travelandleisure.com.
Here's the link if anyone wants to compare any other cities:

This infographic would supplement a story on Hillary Clinton and her race to be the Democratic Party's candidate for President. It would focus on the country's mixed feelings toward her: she's extremely popular among some groups of people and extremely unpopular among others. It would look to the future: if she won the Democratic nomination, would she have a chance as President?

I never had any great motivation behind this infographic other than the fact the college is far too expensive and I don't like paying for it. The article that I used (and most other articles on the subject - its a hot topic) fail to successfully explain the reasons why tuition continues to rise, instead focusing on ways to help alleviate the expense. My infographic is, as you've probably noticed, tongue-in-cheek, because I find the best way to deal with the ridiculous foibles of modern society is through humor, and failing that, strong drink.

My infographic advertises the upcoming final match of the Davis Cup, a season-long tennis tournament that pits countries across the world against one another. This year, the final will be held in November in Portland, Oregon, where the U.S. team will host Russia. I wanted my infographic to emphasize the individual nature of tennis, even in a team-oriented competition like the Davis Cup. Most of the visual elements I used are fairly straightforward and common for the game of tennis, such as the tennis balls and the court. I also made rosters for each team in long columns to underscore the head-to-head competition these two countries will engage in. The names of each country and their flags appear atop the two columns to reiterate the patriotic aspects of the Davis Cup.

Infograph project
I thought it would be cool to find different bottles of wine from some of the best-known wine regions around the world and make a quick list of three for each. By having four rows with three bottles of wine in each row, I was able to add an element of repetition and structure. Having unique bottles in each space added the character and complexity I was looking for. I tried to stay with an earth tone theme throughout which meant I had to lower the opacity on some of the more sharply colored background elements like the flags. One other note on the bottles is that once I found individual bottles, there was less need for a lot of text. I decided the name of the winery, type of wine and price was sufficient. I found a paining of Dionysus, the god of wine, and decided to photoshop him in, which is where I got the name for ,y project.

Esther Castillo's Infographic

My Infographic is about the trans fat ban in Philadelphia.
Philadelphia wants to become the second city that bans trans fat in all local restaurants, (the first one's New York City), prohibiting them from frying food in trans fat or serving any trans fat based food starting from September 2008.
Yet there's no penalties attached to the ban.
I found the story interesting because it's related to Philly. Plus I think it's not difficult to convey the idea visually. Elements (fries, burger, cookies, etc.) that I can put into the piece would be interesting too.
My infographic is neither a chart nor a table. I intended to use the infographic as a narrative. The ban sign on a cup with oil obtained from fast food symbolizes a ban on trans fat. It also serves to tell the audience in what type of food trans fat can be found. The skyline of Philadelphia symbolizes that it takes place in Philadelphia. The question marks in the background questions whether the ban works as there's no penalties.

I found an article on philly.com about Eagles red zone defense by the very talented and knowledgeable Rich Hoffman. And since this idea seemed easy enough to find out information on (ESPN.com has sports stats), I ran with it. Thinking of the easiest and simplest way to make it, I came up with this gem. If I had more time, I would have added little uprights to indicate Field Goals scored on the Birds, but alas, no dice.
